When Science Meets Art

from Los Galgos EP by John Zonn

/

about

This song is an almost literal narrative of the film, The Governess, starring Minnie Driver. It's about how Minnie's character, the eldest daughter of a poor London-based Sephardic Jewish family, had to disguise herself as an Italian governess (Rosina da Silva) to earn money by looking after the daughter of an upcoming Victorian scientist and his wife, who - although actually English - were living on a Scottish island. Quite by chance, Rosina helped the scientist invent photography, though some romantic shenanigans ensued, with possibly disastrous consequences . . .
